Understanding item statuses

Updated Jul 25, 20262 min read

Every item on your packing list is always in one of three statuses โ€” Need, Have, or Packed โ€” and they mean the same thing everywhere: Edit items mode, Pack mode, or the shared list.

What each status means

Need means you still have to get it or pack it. Have means you've got it but haven't packed it yet. Packed means it's done and ready to go. In Pack mode, each row is tinted by its status โ€” need rows get a soft amber highlight โ€” so you can scan a bag at a glance; Edit items mode keeps rows neutral since it's about building the list, not tracking pack-day progress.

Good to know
Tap a row's status pill in Pack mode to cycle it forward โ€” Need โ†’ Have โ†’ Packed โ†’ back to Need. Edit items mode doesn't show a status pill on the row; switch to Pack to change status.

Filtering by status

In Pack mode, the filter bar above your list shows All / Need / Have / Packed, each with a live count. Underneath it, Group switches how the list is sectioned โ€” by Bag, Status, or Type โ€” and works independently of the status filter, so you can e.g. filter to Need while still grouped by Bag.

Heads up
Status and shareable are two different things. Marking an item Packed doesn't share it with the group โ€” that's the shareable checkbox on the item row, which controls whether everyone sees it.
